Research Fellow

Sofya Shahab (she/her) is a Senior Lecturer in International Politics and Heritage at University of Stirling and a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow. Working alongside youth, her research employs anti-colonial, feminist approaches to explore how heritage is conceived, encountered and employed by communities in the midst of violence and its relationship to peace and conflict. Through this research, she has contributed to understandings of how social and physical landscapes are created and utilised in campaigns of terror and resistance, the role of emotion in political conflicts and the consequences this has for people’s sense of place, belonging and security.
