Rhona NicDhùghaill

Doctoral Researcher

Rhona is a Gaelic speaker from Oban in the West Highlands of Scotland. Her background is in refugee support, community arts and development, and Scottish Gaelic language and culture, and in 2022 she completed an MA in Art and Social Practice at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Her doctoral research explores the re(-)membering of Gaelic traditional social knowledge – the worldview, values and practices which inform interpersonal relations, community dynamics and collective ‘place-making’ – in the post-vernacular Gàidhealtachd, and how this can inform community arts practice and (re)connection to Gaelic culture and identity. From a position of pro-diversity, she aims to contribute usefully to the understanding, protection and revitalisation of Gaelic language, culture and communities.
